Yes, I've read the whole trilogy (A Child Called It, The Lost Boy...I think that's what it's called, & A Man Called Dave). A Child Called It made me so mad! How could a parent or anybody abuse a child like that? I've heard of parents hitting their children, but nothing to that extremem! It's horrible! What did he do to deserve that? And even after all those years she never admitted that he was wrong. I'm so glad that him and his son are happy and that he got away from her before it was too late. I applaud his courage and how much he loves his son and how he is never going to be like his mother or any other child abuser.

I've read it and the other two books that follow it. Personally I find it absolutely disgraceful that we live in a country where so many people neglected to see what appeared to be so clearly a case of horrible abuse. I only hope that this type of hideous violence can be stopped earlier, should it ever show signs of happening again. There is also a new book by the man's brother, who apparently took "its" place when he was taken out of the home. Everytime I even see the cover of that book, I have the urge to hold tight to my own son and pray that more people find help, instead of hurt.

I have read it. I found it very depressing, but moving and kind of hopeful. However, after thinking about it and hearing some more information about it, Dave Peltzer seems rather shady. How much of what he wrote can be true? I think his books are similar to 'A Million Little Pieces'. I don't deny his mother abused him, but how could he remember so many small details? I would expect him to have repressed a lot of what happened, or at least only remember some of the worst parts, not all the day-to-day stuff.

I thought it was a very good book. There are also two sequels to this story. My daughter and I read them some time ago, so I'm sorry I don't remember the titles, but all three were written by the same man, the child called "IT". How sad though that it is based on a true story.

I read it. That was sooo crazy! I couldn't believe that a mother could treat her child that way. The way he had to go to school and get talked about was really sad, and this book taught me not to judge people because you never know what their situation is. I'm glad he's happy now. Have you read a book called Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers? I recommend it, you seem like you have good taste in books....

Yes, I read the series. I think it is amazing that he survived and was able to function in life. I thank the schools for recognizing when he needed help (finally). I also think the military service is a godsend to people with half a brain who need a new start.
As an adult, Dave Pelzer also gives inspirational workshops and has written books on that, too. I think he is a real overcomer!

Ohmigosh! I LOVE that book. There are 2 others in the trilogy. I read the second one, "The Lost Boy," and it's really good, too. The 3rd is "A Man Called Dave" or something like that. Those are really good books!!

Oh my gosh. I was appalled and I cried and I was shocked and I couldn't believe anyone could do that to another human being!!
Have you read the other two books about that boy? I can't remember what they're called, but they're about his life as an adolescent and an adult. The first one is that best, but the other two are pretty good too.
