I agree with the first person. Greed. Somebody said the president and the politicians. But they are greedy. Drug dealers sell drugs to get money because they are greedy. The media wants stories to get ratings because they are greedy. The greed might not be about money, but it is still greed nontheless. Everybody wants something and some people will stop at nothing to get it, because they are greedy. Sadly it is a material world we live in because of greed.

parenting : we are now living in a world where you can not discipline your child or even speak harsh everything a parent does is considered overboard, child abuse and child services are called in if the parent chooses to continue (that's if child services are not already there). This isn't anything new. this has been a problem since a generation or 2 before me and snowballing.
the generation out there now (my generation) in the work force can not take criticism because when they where children ever thing they did was right and good. mom and dad wouldn't say the truth.
at worst cases we have the criminal aspect of it. young/adults now that where never tough morals, that if they do something wrong there will be serious consequences. so now as they grow up doing something wrong and ending up in prison is just the "MAN" keeping them down.
and in many of these cases it isn't even that parents couldn't discipline. in many cases i believe it's just as simple as not both parents where there or they where both too busy with other things like earning money to be there as parents.

you can look at many things that people do wrong today that they where never taught that it is rude or morally wrong or just illegal.

The corrupting influence of the current pop culture on the youth. They seem kind of retarded, to be brutally honest, compared to the youth of previous generations. The bar has been lowered about as far as it could go. It's the dumbing down of America, resulting in a much weakened society. Sad.

I agree with alot of the answers already given except religion. I agree that religion is sometimes used as a basis to treat people differently or just flat wrong but not all religions or faiths are dogmatically judgmental and seek to ostricize anyone who doesn't see things there way. Religion can be one way of instilling what I think is bringing down society most and that is personal discipline. I'm not talking about being able to spank or ground your kids. I'm talking about personal discipline that guides one to treat others as they would want to be treated; that's non-judgmental and respects other peoples rights to be different. I'm talking about personal discipline that values a job well done - not because you got paid but because the quality of the work was completed to the best of one's ability. I could go on and on but I think you can see that there is no aspect of our lives that it doesn't pertain; however, without it we have what we have today that's only getting worse.

honestly.. there are many things. to name one, I feel that common decency is out the door. with impolite people cutting in front of you, not thinking that hey there is a line here, road rage, the act of saying Thank you to others when they hold the door open for you. small things that use to mean so much and carry weight is overlooked and taken for granted. another thing is that parents that don't teach thier children manners. I am a mother and I can say this. there are many parents out there that rely on tv or movies to raise thier children and then can't understand why they act the way they do. My daughter knows how to say thank you, please, I am sorry, may I and yes she forgets now and then, but she is aware of others feelings and is considerate to them. I am not one to harp, but too mnay times have I had to watch or listen to parents of very rude children who do not do anything to discipline them. I feel that is why society in one way is being brought down. these children are the future.

Most religions. why can't people see that the universe was created by a Flying Spaghetti Monster and follow His 8 I'd-Really-Rather-You-Didn'ts? Then the world would be a lot better.

Seriously?
Conservatives. Liberals. Statists. Centrists. NOT libertarians/objectivists/etc.

Society is bringing itself down. The drugs don't bring us down. They don't chose to do it. The people that do the drugs are bringing themselves down. The same with alcohol and all that other crap.

i personally feel that pride is a major contributor in bringing down society.. everyone wants to be better than their neighbour. we all want power and if it means having to destroy someone else some people will even go through that measure. you hardly ever come across people who are willing to humble themselves and let their neighbour benefit

I agree with Cesar..parenting is way off boundaries..we have kids out of control and no one to control them..society has relinquished parental skills therefore the main ingredient to a healthy adult has diminished."respect!"

Need deprivation.

Humans are very needy organisms. They do violence in order to satisfy their needs. They violate the norms in order to satisfy themselves. Most of these needs center on need for money, power, prestige, sexual pleasure, food, material possessions, etc. etc. etc.

It appears that humans have stuffed themselves with so many things but the hunger, desire and thirst are still overwhelmingly eating them to death. Yes, ultimately it is man's search for meaning.
