I need to recharge my a/c in my car. I know someone who has a recharging kit but they drive a different make and model. Does that matter?

Since 1995 all approved for the US makes and models are basically alike as far as the access ports are concerned. A/C from car to car varies little as the principal is the same with small variations in application. But charging and recycling the 134R is universal.

Charge from the low pressure side, which is the fat line of the 2 you'll see. The low pressure port is either near the compressor or near the accumulator/drier assy. You should also check to see why it needs a charge as this indicates a leaking system.

Diagnostic tools are too expensive for a one time use. And, if you are unsure of what you are doing a good mechanic is a bargain versus having to pay for medical treatment and/or somebody to repair your mistake in the repair you attempted. Choose wisely.

The only thing that would matter is the fitting. Used to be they used freon on recharging systems and have changed. What is important is to match the coolant in your system. It might be something like R-15 if I remember right. I think that is what's being used now but could be wrong.
Call your local auto parts store and ask what your car does use. If it is the same as what your friend has, the fittings should be the same. It is easy enough to check. Be careful not to damage the threads tho.

Obviously all systems would be different from each other from manufacturer to manufacturer but there is one thing that they all have in common.......they need refridgerent. It's just a matter of being able to recharge any particular system that's the question. Whether or not you may or may not have the right adapter to fit. Keep in mind there are specific Laws in place to make sure freon gases are recaptured to eliminate the possibility of further Ozone depletion. Or so the Lib's would like you to think - I think it's a way to make extra money, more like a rip/off law.

You will need to determine if what type of refrigerant your vehicle takes. Either R-12 or R134. The charging ports use different fittings so you can,t put the wrong refrigerant in HOWEVER!!!!!!!! if you have never recharged an A/C system yourself you could cause damage to your vehicle or even get injured if you do not do it correctly. So be careful or take it to an shop.
