In todays society it has become abuse if a parent touches a child no matter what the reason. We old timers grew up and our parents beat the hell out of us, but nowadays its unacceptable but still happens. There are other ways out there to discipline our kids, whether theyre effective or not who knows but still no parent should hit their kids, it serves no one and could even end the parent in jail and the loss of child custody, but some type of forceful discipline may be needed but it should fit the crime

Unfortunately some parents think it's OK since they were hit when they were kids.
Other parents sometimes "lose it" and hit their child and are very sorry afterwards and feel guilty.
I wish all new parents were required to go to parenting classes so they can learn better ways to raise their children.

I am not a parent but I do not think that there is anything wrong with it if it is because you are truly disciplining your child. Not because you are frustrated. If you have tried other things and this child is not responding then fine. Spare the rod spoil the child.

If hitting a stranger may get you jail time, why is it OK to hit your children? It's not OK.

As long as it doesnt mentally scare or bruise the kids then i would say that it is acceptable.

it depends, if you hit your child in anger, drunken and/or out of boredom, yes it is abuse. if it's for discipline, no.
