A real goth wouldnt listen to their mommy.
But anyway, goths are freakin awesome... dont listen to the people who say differently, they are probably just scared of them lol.

You need to think for Yourself... whether it is Goth or not. But why goth, anyway?.. Do You actually WANT to be Disconnect from Everyone and Everything around You? Goths are Pretty Dark.. and I don't mean in color sense. If you're not that kind of person, than why would You want to go there?

Some of the people that answer this say weird things.
I do not understand why people openly say that they cut themselves, but refuse to fix it.
I am not a goth. Just me. So... Do not "try" to label yourself. Do not try to be SOMETHING. Just be you. Do NOT try to be a preppy prep popular nasty (not everyone, just a lot of people in my high school were like that) you will get a reputation. And it doesn't always seem to be a good one.
Your mom says no because she has a common misconception of people. Yes, normally you would think that a gothic person would wear black, listen to mcnasty music, and hate the world. But not all people that wear black have those same personality traits. You however, seem to want to go with that misconception because you want to put yourself in that label of goth which has that same thought associated with it. And wouldn't that make you a fakey? Why..oh WHY would you want to be a fakey when you can be yourself and happy with that?
Don't do it. Sometimes mothers are ALWAYS right.

I'm not a goth but just be what you want. But d you mean goth like in pretending to be goth (dressing up in black, metal music, etc.) than that's being a poser. But if you really want to be a goth in like the religion way, be one nobody has to know.

You should if you reallly want to but it actually means something to be goth. You will look at a lot of hard times if you turn. And you can't just wear black and say"Oh, I'm goth". It is a lifestyle and a commitment. I tried it and it blew me away. I'm not like that anymore but it is a good experience if you are commited

Why do you want to be a goth in the first place is the answer?
Are you trying to be an individial (sp)? Don't want to be part of
the crowd? You know dressing like a goth is a tride like notation.
Each and everyone has there own like but at the end of the day every tride is a well kitted socity.

depends on how old you are?? you should never go against your parents!!! no matter what age.. maybe it's the idea of the negative view on goths that has your mom worried.. talk to her and explain why you want to be goth and a show her the positives she might re consider...

Ok first of all, you need to learn what being goth is about.
being goth isn't dying your hair black wearingblack clothes and hating everybody.
And you can't just become goth, it's a part of who a person is.
Please do some research on sub-cultures before asking idiots on yahoo who don'y know what there talking about.
Oh and with a question like that you will never be /gothic/ since youv'e a;ready proven yourself an idiot.

I am not a goth! Don't be a goth! People would start avoiding you. Goth is gangster like. If you are goth, you won't be the old you again and who would reconize you?

I don't think a true goth would ask their mom's permission to be a goth. Why would you want to be anyway? They look like vampires. Be young and pretty/handsome while you can.

No, thank god. Never was, never will be. Those people are all attention starved little freaks. Don't be like that, just be a sweet young lady, and don't act like a weirdo. "Goths", as they are called, are people who either don't understand the culture they are trying to mimic, or prefer to live there life in some freaky, made up fantasy world. Its not cool, its just sad. Do your self a favor, and don't waste your youth being mocked and gawked at.
