Any motor vehicle infractions you commit, from being at fault in a wreck to running a stop sign, can cause you to accumulate points on your record. The more points you accumulate, the more 'high risk' you are considered by insurance companies. This helps them determine how much you should pay them in insurance premiums, because higher risk drivers cost insurance companies more money (not just for damages, but for the manpower and time the insurance company's staff spends processing and handling claims). High risk drivers are more likely to get in wrecks or cause injuries to themselves or others. Even though you may be reimbursing the victim's insurance company for damages to his vehicle, your record will reflect that you were at fault in an auto accident to a company that will insure you in the future; because they will cover costs up front, they have the right to know that you are considered a dangerous driver. Depending on where you live and the nature of the points accumulated, they usually expire, or disappear from your record after a certain period of time.
This system also inherently protects low risk drivers from having to pay more money in premiums to defray costs to the insurer at the fault of other (high risk) drivers.

Depending on your State and it's laws, you got the points because you hit him, it might have been considered as wreckless driving.
You need to call your insurance company (or your mom's insurance company) & ask them about the specifics of the points you received.

You get the points for causing the accident. There may be additional points for not having insurance.

The fact of the matter is, you got into an accident. That's an offense against your lisence. That why you got the 3 points. It doesn't matter if you're paying them back. It matters that you got into the accident in the first place.

You had the accident, you were at fault, you committed a moving violation and you could have gotten a ticket for it. So the 3 points.

depends on the state you live in, but most give points for accidents that they think is your fault and it could also be because there was no insurance on the car you were driving.

Listen to me carefully:
Because you had a moving violation. You got a ticket for a moving violation. It has nothing to do with insurance status.

Should not have been driving drunk and swerving into his lane. Its stupid people like you that kill innocent people like me. And being drunk like you were, you probably didn't feel a thing. Get a life and don't drink and drive. Grow up and call a cab. Or better yet hit a tree.

It’s an incentive for safe driving; and being responsible, right now you’re being punished the only way our society operates, economically.
