How can you stop sunless tanners from turning orange around the knees and ankles? Ive tried using less and avoiding those areas as best as possible. Is there something I can use or do before putting it on?

I do use the Jergen's kind and its very uneven on the knees and ankles for me. I also use the fair shade and my skin isnt really that light so it should be ok, but it isnt.
And for whoever said tan at the beach or in the yard...thanks but skin cancer and wrinkles arent for me

Before using your sunless tanning product, it's important to use a pumice type scrub to loosen old dead skin. (Some of the tanners come with this pumice product). Scrub particularly well in the knee and ankle region and you should have better results... less of an orange look.
When applying the tanner, apply to your ankles and knees last, that way you will be applying less on those areas. I kind of blend mine into the ankles and knees last, that seems to work very well for me. Since using the pumice type product before putting on my tanner, I don't have any orange areas at all.
If this doesn't work, then perhaps you need to try another product.

You should try the daily moisturizers that slowly give you a tan. I highly recommend them! (I use Hawaiin Tropic's Island's glow, but I have also heard that Jergen's is great too)
If you use it for more than a couple days in a row you can really see a difference. And the cool thing about it being gradual is that the next day you can see if you kind of missed a spot or put too much some where and since it's not very noticeable yet, you can just correct it with your next day's application.
Also, (as with all forms of fake tanning) exfoliation and moisturization are important. The color sticks easier to drier parts of the skin so you want to be as smooth as possible!

I have found a little bit of non-greasy lotion works well, but don't use too much or the sunless tanner will wipe off. Use a small amount in those areas, let it dry, then use the sunless tanner.

You should use Jergens Natural Glow. The best way is to use the tanner sparingly around knees and elbows.

I have heard that a body scrub is good to use also. But I would try another product. I've had that happen before too. I also had at one time artificial nails and they got discolored by a tanning product, but it may have just happened when using the tanning bed, I'm not sure.

Maybe its the kind you use!? I like jergans natural glow a lot. Maybe the color is too dark for you too. I just use the lotion then wipe the elbows and knees other place I dont want orange with a cloth and thats all. I dont wash those areas or anything just wipe over them.

Try lotion. It will help it to not be darker in those areas.
