One of the effects of nationalist thinking is a loss of a sense of proportion. The killing of 2,300 people at Pearl Harbor becomes the justification for killing 240,000 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The killing of 3,000 people on Sept. 11 becomes the justification for killing tens of thousands of people in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We need to refute the idea that our nation is different from, morally superior to, the other imperial powers of world history.

We need to assert our allegiance to the human race, and not to any one nation.

Remember this on the 4th of July.

Good old yellow bellied, chickensh*t, coward George who made sure he didn't see any combat in Vietnam. Most guys I know who go to Iraqi are fighting for their buddies who are there with them. They fight so that they may all come home together alive. No one wants to die for George bush. As for him telling the troops that they are fighting for "democracy" and if they die they die for "democracy" is a lie. By they way, why haven't any of the Bush clans children joined the military yet to fight for dear old dad or uncle George. Where is their sense of patiotism and responsibility to America?

Our nation IS different from and morally superior to the imperial powers in history. When we go to a country, like say Iraq, and bomb them back to the 12th century, we stay there and build them back to modern times. We help protect them while they decide what kind of government they want for themselves. We even protect PROTESTERS in the country we took over who are protesting our presence in their country. When they can look after themselves, we will leave happily. Name any other country in history who gives a conquered country back to the people who were conquered.

And, about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we dropped the bomb on them to prevent an ongoing war which would have cost even more lives than the atom bomb itself took, both American lives and Japanese lives. The Japanese killed over 100,000 Phillipinos themselves trying to keep the Allies(mainly us) from taking the Phillipine capital of Manila. I shed no tears for the terrorists we killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are murderers who deserve nothing less.

I pledge my allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, not to some vague notion of humanity at large. Remember the men who gave their lives so we could have this difference of opinion.

He has to tell them that.

It wouldn't seem right to tell them they are getting killed for no good reason to fight an illegal and unjust war just so Governor Bush (yes, gov, because he wasn't elected Prez he was appointed) could look like he was actually doing something about terrorism when in fact he isn't doing a damn thing.
