It's hard to find pole dancing lessons purely because most seem to be fun for hen parties rather than lessons for anyone who wants to learn themselves - often places that teach individuals lessons cost a lot under the assumption that you will go on to be a pole dancer and so make a lot of money making the lessons worth it.

I'm still desperately trying to find a good teacher or course locally in Newcastle, and do not seem to be getting anywhere very fast, I think also the fact that many young women have an interest in it and the fact pole dancers can get a lot of abuse both direct and indirect make them a very closed off lot. Example people calling pole dancers sluts - pole dancers are very prone to girlhate (non-direct abuse/attacks) so you do also have to be thick-skined and not willing to let people control what you want to do just because they do not approve and wish to make you feel bad about being an empowered woman.

You may want to look through a few pole dancing sites such as those below;

http://www.mypoledanceschool.co.uk
http://www.poledance-perfect.co.uk
http://www.stripper-faq.org
http://www.verticaldance.com
http://www.pole-cats.co.uk

If no lessons close to you then you could always try e-mailing them to see if they can help, although I myself have not had much luck asking them for help. At least there is information on this site, at least it may help give you somewhere to start and possibly better you know pole dancing then easier it would be to get involved or find someone to teach you.

You could always get a load of girlfriends together and do one of the hen night type lessons, it would be a start at least and you could always ask about single person lessons from the people who take you for that.

Another option would be to go to a local strip club and see if you could get chatting to one of the girls – something I'm not brave enough to do – if you want to do it as a career or job rather than just hobby then you could also try asking the managers or staff about getting a job there as chances are somewhere would be willing to take you on and train you if you were going to be willing to work for them.
