Let's assume your pool is a regular oval. Take the pool and divide it into regular shapes that you can compute the area of then add up all the areas to get the total pool area. You will have two half circles and a rectangle. Back to our oval; find the point where the pool changes from a curve to straight line and measure the width of the pool at that point. Then measure the distance from that point to where the pool's edge changes from a straight line to a curve, on the other side. The square area is: pie X radius X radius + length X width.

If your pool is of a more complex design then sub divide it into more parts that you can calculate the area of and add them together.

The square area for the concrete is what you really want to calculate. Back to our oval. If you want a 10' wide stretch of concrete to encircle your pool then calculate the area of concrete like you did for the pool. Assume that you are going to cover the entire area (including the pool) with concrete. Once you have that area subtract the area for the pool and you know how many square feet of concrete you need. Always assume 5% - 10% waste.

If you can't subdivide the area into smaller areas that you can calculate then you will need calculus. That's how they figure out the volume for a coke bottle.

If you are still stuck then post another question, with measurements and e-mail me a link to it. I can do the math myself.

The pool deck has a choice of three swimming pools, two tiered mid-ships and one shaded by a dome aft in the center of the Spa area. All have whirlpools adjacent. There are 93,000 square feet of open deck space and during a day at sea you'll find plenty of open or secluded areas for sunning, but get out on deck early if you want a lounge chair. They're gone by 10am. Additional recreational facilities include a netted sports deck under the ship's funnel, with volleyball, badminton, paddle tennis, and a half basketball court. A small golf center allows passengers to enjoy computer-simulated play on 18 of the world's top golf courses, plus two fantasy courses designed for some amusing frustration.

Determine first how much of a walkway you want around the perimeter of the pool. (e.g. 3 feet? 4 feet?). Let's use 3 feet as an example:

You need to know the dimensions of the pool (i.e. length (l) and width (w).

Here's the formula assuming the 3 feet walkway around the pool:

[(2 x 3) + length ] x [(2 x 3) + width] - [length x width] = area of concrete.

Hope this helps!
