as I used to. Is this a temporary thing? Does anybody get that feeling from time to time? What can I do to fix the problem? And could you recommend any good books fort me. I'm into science fiction, fantasy, horror, a good occaisonal thriller, and Josi Picoult-like "women" fiction. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

Last time I had the feeling, I was depressed.
Before that, I hand't started to wear glasses, yet. Either you've not yet found the kind of books, you like. Or you need to see an optometrist. Or you're depressed about something, and trying to keep your feelings inside. That's what I think. Try reading Bounty Gun. Also Some of the books that are by, Peter David.

I read a lot and lose interest every now and again too, but I wouldn't worry about it too much as eventually a new book will come out or you'll hear about one that you feel you have to read and your reading craze will be kick started again :o)
In the mean time why not pursue another interest - in my last lull I got into Japanese animation films a bit and I found that by only scratching the surface of this field I had more than enough to keep me occupied, the time before that I took up scuba diving and found some great reads on that topic as a result. Pick a topic that interests you and do a bit of research and don't be afraid of trying something completely different.
I guess the book I would suggest given you're interests is The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley its a popular fantasy telling the story of King Authurs rule but with more emphasis on the strong female characters in the story (character relationships are key, but isn't a soppy romance), I thought it was great even though it was not my usual genre. Good Luck!

I get like that from time to time, too. I'll go months without reading a book and then, all of a sudden, go into a reading frenzy and read a book a week for a month. Anyway, I do know of a few good books you might like: have you heard of Robin McKinley? Try The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword, two great fantasy adventure books that are hard to put down. I also liked her newest book, Sunshine, which is kind of a fantasy-vampire-thriller type. It's not as good as the previous two I mentioned, though. I love anything by Madeleine L'Engle. She writes fantasy books that are geared toward kids but are definitely interesting enough for adults; I also really like her adult fiction. Fall on Your Knees is a really good book- I forgot who wrote that one. I also like anything by Douglas Coupland.

Hope this helps!

I am a librarian, and the best book that I have read in the sci-fi department was Widdershins by Charles de Lint. If you are looking for some really good women fiction, try Suite Franciase by Irene Nemirovsky, translated by Sandra Smith. Not only is the back story good (author killed in Auschwitz) but, the story is great as well.

The reason why you probably don't get into books as much is that you haven't found something in a while to grab your interest. It really depends on your mood (which is something I always ask) and what you are looking for. A great summer read was Lipstick Jungle by Candace Bushnell, really good naughty fun.

There are times after I have read an entire series of books that I need a break from reading for a while. I get kind of burned out on reading when I read so much. It is very strange because I love to read and always have. But if I try to start a new book too soon after I have completed another one it takes forever for me to complete the book.

I would recommend that you just take a short break for while. A few days or a week. The desire will come back and you will begin reading again as voraciously as before.

I started reading science fiction omnibuses, yes that's a word used instead of "collection of". I read several ones with stories dating back to the 1940's. We are so used to technology that we can't imagine a world without it, or see how many things actually came true. See if you can find some of those.
Stephen King, writing as Richard Bachman is a favorite of mine, really creepy stories. See if you can find Golden Witchbreed by Mary Gentle, it's out of print but you can get a good used copy, it's worth every cent. My suggestion is to go back at least three or four decades and read that. Ursula K. LeGuin is fantastic, Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicles is a classic, Rendezvous with Rama by Henlein is great, All the Myriad Ways by Larry Niven is awesome, especially the short story Inconstant Moon, or Henleins Citizen of the Galaxy, Joan D. Vinge's Psion, Catspaw, the Snow Queen, The Summer Queen. Maybe you could dive into a polemic book like the Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie, I read it an still can´t understand why someone would try to kill him over that. The Witching Hour by Anne Rice is good too. When I'm bored I switch genres to something totally out of my common reading material and usually come across some really good things that help me get out of the rut. Of course those get added to my list of favorites as well.

Happy Hunting

Trust me, a relationship at your age is more drama than you need. Since you asked the question. He likes you as a friend, maybe a tad bit more, but not enough to act on it. He flirts because he knows you like him but at the same time he is making you like him more. He is not worth the emotion right now. Remember, He does have a girlfriend. In fact, if he thought you did not like him, he would probably pay more attention. He probably thinks you'll always be around. Just relax at the party. Do your own thing and focus on just having fun as a kid!

You might like Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (and its upcoming sequel, New Moon). You might enjoy a trilogy by Scott Westerfeld beginning with Uglies. Both books really hooked me almost from the beginning. I loved them both, but I especially loved Twilight.

Some of my old favorites (that I've read and reread) are books by Orson Scott Card. You might try him. Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are two of his best.

And in case you find none of the above appeal to you, here are some reading advisory links.
