We're all shallow to a certain extent. We'll ask how someone is when we really don't care what the answer is. Shallow is not getting involved, skimming the surface of things and never wanting to go any deeper. We all start out that way with new people and then if we want to know them better we dig deeper.

Someone who only cares about things that are not related to a person's actual personality, like money or looks. You can love rich men because they have a good work ethic and have an attitude that made them successful, and that's not shallow, but if you only love the fact that they have money, that is very shallow.
