Only if you want to own a perpetual toddler that can pull your arm off and beat you to death with it, then dispose of your body by eating you.

Orangatans are much more docile.

14 is pretty old for a chimp. Teaching it may prove a very great challenge.

Chimps are very messy. Even when they wear diapers, they still will use what is in them for bombardments.

Chimps are the closest to humans, but you have to start training them very young. Just like human babies. And, they can learn quickly.

If the Chimp you are going to purchase has already been partially trained, then you may have some luck with other training. In a controlled setting (such as Labs), many Chimps do learn limited sign language. But, it is still not known if it is Pavlovian training or actual learning. No Chimp has carried a conversation with sign language.

They have been (somewhat) successful with certain test, such as putting a square in a square, but Chimps are tool users. Which makes that test self-defeating.

Here are some of the things you need to know if you choose to own a chimp.
They are smelly
They don't have hygiene
They eat a lot (and consequently, sh*t allot)
They tend to throw things not tied down
They can get excited and spooked easily. (bad for company)
They can get into items you think are safe from them.

Despite Animal Boo Hooers, owning a chimp in not cruel as long as you treat it with the same respect and kindness as any other person.

NO. If you want to teach sighn language to a chimp then find a college that has a corse on it or just sighn language then go to zoo`s and ask for a job who knows what might happen, But it is NEVER A GOOD IDEA to keep a wild animal, especially if you are not a perfessional.

Chimps are not toys. They are by nature animals of the wild. Unless you have extensive training in how to handle chimps, which it sounds as though you don't, you have no business "owning" one.
At 14, who knows what this animal has been through in its lifetime. Many "performer" chimps have been abused throughout their lives, and come with "baggage" that could lead them to be VERY unpredictable behavior.
They require special diet, surroundings - what are you going to do when the chimp pulls his diaper (yes, they have to wear diapers - they're not potty trained) off and flings poo around the room.
The VAST majority of people are not equiped to "own" exotic animals.

They can be VERY territorial and dangerous as they get older. Definitely not a good idea. Remember the guy last year that got his foot torn off? He and his wife had raised that chimp from a baby, they just get dangerous as they get older.

No it isn't. Chimps go from being cute furry little babies to huge apes, that are as tall as an average-sized adult and about 20 times stronger. They can also never be potty-trained, and need to wear diapers all the time.

That is up to you, if I had the money I would own one. I know this lady and she is building a house. Her chimp has it's own bedroom and bathroom. they painted the bedroom like a jungle and put swings and good things for it to play with. they do throw there poop at you though good luck

Chimps are very temperamental, and easily capable of inflicting wounds that can kill or severely disfigure. Try a yahoo search for "chimp attack" and see for yourself.

I have heard that chimps can become very temperamental as they get older. They can inflict wicked bites, scratch, and have a strength many times what you might expect.

Probably not the best idea. Chimps are pretty filthy creatures, they throw their sh!t everywhere ... they also can become aggressive and sometimes violent. Not to mention they attract lice, fleas, and other parasitic bugs.
