OWWWW OWWWW OWWWW MAKE IT STOP!!! That's probably the best way to describe back labor! Back labor is still labor, and they are contractions. It generally starts in the lower back as a sharp, cramping pain and radiates to the front into a full blown contraction. It's actually the baby turned the wrong way in the birth canal, with him facing the front, which causes the back of the baby's head to push against your spinal cord when you have a contraction, causing extreme back pain. But, a little relief, the pain in the back only lasts as long as the contraction. It hurts really bad, worse than normal contractions. But, should you have it, an epidural will make it all better!
Congrats on your baby!

well i just had my baby 5 weeks ago and sad to say i had 12 hours of back lanor. It started 3 days before i went into labor, every 30 min or so i would get a pain in my back then it would go away. but when the day of delivery came it was awful, i was on my hands and knees in doggy style position for 12 hours, i couldnt walk to the bathroom with out screaming. trust me youll know when you have back labor, and no i did not have many belly contractions. i could feel tightening but thats it no pain. hope this gives you a little insight, best of luck

I had back labor with my son, and it hurt more than I can even descibe. The best thing to do is go straight to the hospital if you are not sure. But be careful, when I went to the hospital the hooked up the fetal mniter to me and told me my contractions were not strong enough for me to be really in labor, completely discounting the pain I was in. And it wasnt until about 12 hours later they figured out I was having back labor and had to use the forceps. So dont let them send you home if you really feel you are in labor, insist they check you for signs of back labor.

You will still have contractions, but they may not seem like it. Your back will HURT. If you feel like this is a possibility just call your Dr. or Nurse and/or go to the Labor and Delivery of the Hospital you are planning on having your baby. They can check you, and hook you up to the monitor to see what is happening.
Take care and best of luck with the new little bundle of joy

i had back labor my first time yes it does hurt to me it felt like someone was crushing my back. yes you will still have contractions but you are more focused on the back pain. the end result is it is so worth it though being able to bring a healthy little angel into your arms that you waited so long to meet. good luck and god bless you and your new baby and family.

You know how sometimes when you work in the yard all day, or your out having fun all day, and then you go home and you go to bed and you lay down and you get that pain in your back, and the more you relax the more it hurts, but then slowly it goes away, it's kinda like that, with a bit more of a kick, and it doesn't matter if your laying down or standing up. Good luck, and congratulations.

Yes, you will still have contractions but your back will ache like never before-- and in rhythm with the contraction.
Best of luck to you! Being a mom is wonderful!
