Oh! Great question! That's a tough one, too.

Well, it's 2006, so since your girl asked you to dinner, she should maybe pay.

No good?

Well then, don't assume anything. When the meal happens, ask for the check (you pay).

If Dad pipes up and says...'no, let me pay!' Then offer to split the tab. If he won't let you even do that, then just say, 'are you sure?' If he says yes, then just surrender and let him pay.

If you really like this girlfriend, and it is getting serious. Make a good impression by talking to the person seating you as you enter and tell him/her, you well be paying for the evening.Tell them to let your waiter at your table know and hold the check until you ask for it. That way you can pay for the check, you look as through your are responsible. And you can handle, your own business. Explain that you would like for it to be a treat for their family and if they would like, they can pick up the check next time. Parents always like a responsible date. Good luck , hope this helps.

You should be prepared to pay for the dinner. Likely the dad will end up picking up the tab, but if their is a next time it will be your turn naturally.

The father definitely makes it tricky. I say that you should pull out your wallet like you're going to pay and then let her father stop you and say he'll pay. If he doesn't stop you then go ahead and pay, but forever realize that you're the bigger man

It's important to make the gesture. But still, be prepared to pay. If he insists on paying, ask if you can get the tip.
