I'm 16 years old and I just moved to a new area for the summer. I have NO friends here and nothing at all to do. I come from a single-parent household, and my mother works most of the time so spending "quality time" with the family is out of the question. What should I do? How do I improve my social life and also "get a life"? A new one? All of the jobs around here are already taken by college students.

Umm... You should look extra hard for a job. Then you will probably meet people and make friends until school starts then you'll meet even more people. Or go jogging or something. Try going to the mall and go shopping... Or you can buy a whole lot of video games and sit in front of the tv/ pc until school starts *shrugs*.

Turn off the computer, Put on some shorts and a tank top. Walk, Ride a bike, Drive, Or take the bus to the nearest park. Sit on a bench with a book. Trust me soon enough you will make friends.

I know a lot of chicks aren't into sport, but if you like netball or something you could join a club....

What about your neighbours? do they have teens your age? if so go introduce yourself

Go to an Ice-Skating ring... there are always heaps of teens there, and they aren't all dorks because even I went there when I was your age (to meet girls). Even you if cant skate very well it doesn't matter you will pick it up quickly and make friends!

Good Luck!

Find those with common interests. Common ground is the best way to connect with people. Also wait until school starts, there you should make friends. School is good at least for one thing, that's making friends. At school you could join clubs and participate in activities.

Get out and make friends. Be as social as you can. Find out when the next party is and see if you'd be able to attend. You could start your own business doing lawns or cleaning gutters or something. Just a suggestion!

search for jobs in your area on the web, try making new friends just saying hi to someone and if they say "get a life" theyre not exactly your friends. hang out with your friends and help your mom with the housework, if you do something nice for someone you'll feel good about yourself and your life will get better

hey! i was in that situation, and i am still in it. unfortunately, you really can't just get a "life" quickly. the best, but hardest and least crappiest (compared to the other options), is when you start school, be open. unless your the type of person to talk to random strangers/students at your local Walmart... and speaking of jobs.... look in the newspaper ads, etc.

good luck.

You should enroll in some classes, like yoga, pottery, guitar or just learn a language and meet some new people there.

Find an activity ... sports league, art class, civic theater, church choir, SOMETHING where you can interact with other people.

Turn off the computer and get out there!

Good luck to you.
