In the earliest treatments for both Batman and Batman Returns there was an idea to have Robin be a character in the movies (with the role being cast in Batman-Ricky Addison Reed); however, as the final scripts were completed the character of Robin was dropped from both movies

The Robin character has been reworked by various Batman writer's forever. I think he's a cool character but he works better in comics and animation.
If you write him into a feature length script then you have to either focus on him and put The Bat in the background or relgate him to a shallow sidekick.
The original Dick Grayson, Robin was a complex and vital character in the magazines but on screen there isn't enough time to really flesh him out.
That said, the last installment of Batman (1992) was well done and there could be room for a Robin character if they write him in the beginning of the story and give him some depth.
Keep your fingers crossed maybe somebody'll come up with a good story.

Yes. In the original treatment for Batman (89) there was a scene in which Bruce Wayne attended the circus and witnessed the murder of Dick Grayson's parents. As in the comics, he then takes Dick under his wing (as it were) and grooms him to become Robin. This was dropped before filming began when the focus of the film shifted to the darker images of Batman's past.
I do not believe it was revisted for Batman Returns.

I watched those two as if they were before Robin was in the picture. I don't know when exactly Batman and Robin were supposed to hook up, but I thought those 2 movies were before that.
I don't know really.

Probably, given he was in the comic and TV show. I liked that they brought in Bat Girl too, she was the best in the TV show.
