I remeber ken livingstone, mayor of london saying london was the greatest after the july 7th bombings, then later the new york authorities had a public press conference for some reason and said NY was. It almost seemed as if they went on TV just to say ny was the greatest city, not happy with ken saying london was. Also a certain american news entertainment channel edited most of what ken livingstone said about why london was great in a later broadcast of his interview.

I don't necessarily think london is the greatest, i mean in a community sense it is pretty awesome, but visually NY is great and dozens of others of cities have great aspects about them too. But as a country lad who thinks cities are congested hell holes I just wanna know what u think is the greatest city in the world - AND WHY?

The greatest city in the world is the one I'm in at any given time. (Not 'cause of my presence!) I think the greatness comes from the buzz you get, so you can't appreciate how great a city is when you're not there.
If that makes sense.

I dont think there can be just one greatest city, for me there are 3

1.Paris- I`ve been there a few times and each time has great memories the buzz around the place is great, the architecture is superb , around every corner there is something of interest, it just feels alive.

2.Prague-I`ve been there once and it was a weekend break that my girlfriend won through R&R in her work, we stayed in a 5 star hotel, went clubbing down by the river and had an amazing night at the perle de prague a restaurant that is in a famous building in the city we were sipping champagne out on the balcony overlooking the river and other side of the city which was good for a guy from the 3rd greatest city -Glasgow.
3.Glasgow, dont forget your hometown its great for the memories it gives you.

Well, I can't answer this question properly as I haven't visited all the major cities of this world. I can tell you, however, my 2 favorite cities on 2 different continents.

San Francisco is my favorite in America, so far. It has such natural and estethic beauty that it boggles the mind. It has such a diverse collection of people of all kinds. It's fascinating.

Stockholm, Sweden is my favorite city in Europe, so far. It is a city that sits on like 7 little islands. Some of the islands are in sea water, some are in fresh water. It is beautiful. You are surrounded by water no matter where you are. The sense of history overwhelms you there, especially in Gamla Stan.

A second vote for D.C.. You've got history, culture, and a decent music scene; government, protests, and people of every ethnic background you can think of. D.C. has everything without the attitude of the northeast and with an east coast identity. It offers you things to get involved in and care about as well as stuff just to get lost in for the fun of it. If it's American or about America, you can find it in downtown D.C.; if you're looking for something else, it's somewhere in the rest of Washington. With great weather and a great location (and when that's not convenient, a great airport), Washington is the quintessential American city.

Of all the cities I've been to my favorite has been London, historic but also modern, good transportation, many things to do, heck only bad part is the pollution that most cities have! Coming in a close second is Boston for similar reasons but real good seafood makes it just a tad pit better than my near by city of Tampa that is trying to get it together lol

Well my home city, Leeds, what a city, its the 3rd biggest in England, biggest in West Yorkshire, saying that, the whole of Yorkshire, which is the biggest English County/State. There is a great soccer team; Leeds United Football Club (Elland Road), a great rugby team Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club which is based at Headingley, which is also home to Yorkshire County Cricket, 2 great radio broadcasters Aire FM and Galaxy 105FM. Many Restaurants, Casino's, bars, clubs, parks, great night life, Airport (Leeds & Bradford), nice City centre train station, now if this is'nt a plug for Leeds then I don't know what it is, ahhhhh, City living, has its ups & downs, but what a buzz, I Love it here, come here, visit it and see it for yourselves, it won't let you down, goodnight, pop:750,000.

Copenhagen. Beautiful architecture, beautiful people, well organised, and small enough to have character. It is where I live when not in the UK.

London is a huge, smelly, ugly mess! I'm from Manchester, which is simply a smaller version!
