The producers of the show want the viewer to feel a sense of URGENCY. Yelling tells the brain that what is being express is URGENT. The viewer then wants to continue watching due to the urgency they infer. So they make ALL potential contestants practice yelling before they are selected.

I think they yell for several reason. They are nervous. They are very excited. They just don't really know what to do so they yell like a screaming mimi.
Also, I'm betting they are coached. I'm sure the dullards never get picked to be contestants.
I have only one wish. They are always yelling "Big Money, Big Money" as the mighty wheel makes it's rounds. How about if they just sped it all up a bit by using the oh-so-popular acronyms of today's business world and just yell, "B.M. B.M.!!!" That would be so much more entertaining.....

j.j. has close to the correct answer. First, contestants are screened before thaty qualify to appear as on-air contestants. They play practice games to make sure everyone understands the rules, and so that they can be coached to show enthusiasm. Notice how all the players clap their hands and shout even when it is not their turn.

I think they yell because they are excited and are hoping to win as much money as they can. I know I would probably do the same thing if I were to go on the show.

Because a little banner in front of them illuminates and say " Get emotional and ridiculous Now !!! "
And before you answer is the same in " The Price is Right " and in the cooking show of Mark Chang too.
By the way, cable has good programs and movies .

It's mainly because that telivision program is mainly for old/deaf people. their not really yelling, or maybe the host is deaf and they have to yell for him to hear. I'm not sure, i dont watch that show.

Because they are stupid. And why do they have to clap? Same reason. I hate clapping. All that damn clapping and smiling that Vanna White does would make my hands hurt and my face spaz out.
