Why do people wear white when they go sailing?

You know who else wears white....people who live in the desert. This is because sailors, tennis players, & desert livers have one thing in common. They're constantly out in the sun. White is a very cool color. When the sun hits white it reflects off unlike a dark color such as black.

In most tennis tournaments it's required. They like uniformity.

But I don't know about the sailing. White just looks clean, I guess.

Two reasons:

(1) It reflects the most sunlight, leaving you cooler. You know all those desert flicks where everybody is wearing white? Same reason. Wearing black would roast you.
(2) You can bleach the dammed things, removing all stains. Any other color and you can't use bleach.

White is a good color for being outside because it doesn't absorb heat and sunlight. If you wear lighter colors, you'll feel cooler {as in colder}. White clothes are generally lighter as well.

so you can be seen easier. white is alot cooler than black. try wearing a white shirt out in the sun for an hour then try wearing a black shirt for an hour in the sun. white reflects the light where as black absorbs it.
