wow! 5 greatest songs!? To choose 500 songs is already hard enough! But if you're asking for greatest, as opposed to the best, then the songs should have at least made an impact to our society. They would have to include:

1. Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & The Comets. Officially the start of the rock era.

2. I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles; The song is somehow a representative of the glorious 60's, when love was a bit more innocent, when things were a bit more simple. Could you imagine anyone singing this one in the 21st century? You'll be laughed at. It's now "Let me touch your humps"...

3. Imagine - John Lennon. Came at a time when the world was reeling at the absurdity of the US inviolvement in the Vietnam War. But look at the news now, they're still at it. Seems like they never learn. Or is it the lure of big bucks of selling arms and controlling prices of oil? Greedy indeed...

4. Rock The Boat - Hues Corporation. Officially the start of the disco era. A sound that was so danceable and yet had the harmony for you to actually enjoy the song.

5. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana. Perhaps the greatest song out of all the grunge songs to come out of the boring 90's. The times they are a changing indeed.
