What exactly did the 4 + 2 transmission option consist of in the mid 80's Corvettes?

Was it a 4 speed with a 2 speed rear-end? I remember seeing them in 84 - 85 Vettes. When Chevy went to the 6 speed they all disappeared.

It was actualy a 4+3 and it consisted of a 4 speed manual transmission with an overdrive unit connected to the back of the trans. where the tail housing would go. You basically had the option of overdrive in second, third, and fouth gears.They were not very reliable and kind of heavy.

It was a 4 speed with an automatic overdrive bolted to the back of the tranny. I hated it.
