I have three viruses on my computer; one of which is a homepage hijacker. I have tried virus and anti-spy scans and none of them can remove the viruses. What should I do?

If you are running Windows XP, download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite. www.ewido.net

Install and update.

Shut your computer off and bring it up in safe mode (usually tapping the F8 key before the welcome screen appears, select 'safe mode only'.

Run the scan in safe mode and allow the program to delete anything it finds.

Reboot and see if that helps.

Good luck.

Well, for AntiVirus software, try using AVG to scan it, then if it doesn't work, get Avast!, these two are the top free AntiVirus software on the net currently, following up will be AntiVir. If that doesn't work try scanning your computer with AntiSpyware software like Ad-Aware, Tenebril SpyCatcher, Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender and so, and if all these doesn't work and those viruses keep on attacking your computer, you'll have to reformat your computer I guess. Good luck!

Ugh, I hate hijackers, they're so evil. I don't want your Viagra, I don't want your porn, I just don't care.

Anyways, there are three major (free!) anti-spyware programs. They all remove slightly different things, so try them all :)

1) Ad-Aware (pick the option to scan everything)
2) Spybot (slow, but worth it)
3) Microsoft Anti-Spyware (made by the evil company, but still good. And it's fast)

Links below. More advice soon.

As far as anti-virus software, most you have to pay for. Several notable exceptions are Avast! and AVG. I use avast :)

If you can access it, download HijackThis, and have your log analyzed. This can be done at a good tech forum, or automagically here : http://www.hijackthis.de/

Good luck, and be more careful next time :-)

/I use Firefox, so I don't have to worry about spyware :)
