Republicans claim to want a smaller government yet everytime they get a chance they try to spy on you and limit your personal freedoms. They do however, want the government out of the way of business, except to give said businesses tax breaks and subsidize monopolies. They want total economic freedom (by freedom they mean no minimum wage or labor unions), low taxes (for people who make a lot of money), and a high intrusion into social matters (except for guns).
Democrats want most of the same things, but a tad less in each area. Democrats are spinless while the Republicans have so much backbone, they might as well turn into giraffes...(corny I know.)

While there are many exceptions (how could there NOT be, with only 2 parties representing such a diverse society), you can differentiate the two parties as follows:

Republicans generally favor limiting the government's control of the Market (economics), while using the government to control the social aspects (morals) of society.

Democrats are the flip-side of that, believing that the Government should be used to control the economy, while leaving personal choices up to the individual.

Again, this is a generalization, and there are glaring examples of exceptions, but this is a good rule-of-thumb. Furthermore, the parties have both evolved since their inceptions, and continue to do so.

Sure. Simply put, Republicans believe that big government is not good and that more power should go to the states. They believe in less government power overall, and generally oppose welfare. Democrats are the opposite. They think a powerful and centralized government is best and generally support welfare and other ways to help the poor and needy.

Democrats haven't been the same after JFK and Republicans haven't been the same after Ronald Reagan so they are both corrupt and messed up!

I'm an Independent, I don't think there is a difference between Repubs and Dems. Really not a wits worth of difference. They are both full of sh*t. I mean really full, so full it is running out there mouth.

There's no difference anymore. They are all owned by the same corporations. The silly arguments about flag burning and the bible are just meant to distract us from our real problems.
