According to the Body Mass Index (BMI) tool, "normal" weight for someone 5'4" is anywhere between 110 and 144 pounds. Anything under 110 is considered underweight and anything over 145 is considered overwieght. "Average" normal weight for an adult who is 5'4" is approximately 128 pounds.

You can calculate the BMI for any height/weight combination here: http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/adult_BMI/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.htm

If the person is under age 20, you should use this calculator instead: http://apps.nccd.cdc.gov/dnpabmi/Calculator.aspx

BMI is used as a screening tool to identify possible weight problems for adults. However, BMI is not a diagnostic tool. For example, a person may have a high BMI. However, to determine if excess weight is a health risk, a healthcare provider would need to perform further assessments. These assessments might include skinfold thickness measurements, evaluations of diet, physical activity, family history, and other appropriate health screenings.

The ideal weight for somebody that is 5'4" would all depend on whether speaking of a male or female, bone structure, age, etc. Someone that has a larger frame, may be able to carry extra weight without it showing as much; whereas a person with a small frame may look better at the lower end of range for pounds. I don't think there is one perfect number on a scale that would ideally fit the height level. However, I would think that somewhere between 115 - 145 should be a comfortable weight range for someone that height. Again though, it all depends on what looks best on the individual and what makes that individual most comfortable in his / her own skin.

Funny! Ideal weight, what is that? According to the doctor it is 125-149 depending on your frame. It says my ideal weight is 160-176 and I range from 120-140. When I gave birth to my son I was only 153 lbs. As long as you are healthy and your body consists mostly of muscle and not fat then who cares about the weight.

As a rule, 120-130. But the more important question is HOW the weight is being distributed and is it FAT or MUSCLE? 2 persons can have the same weight - but the one with more muscle mass will look and feel better.
