Why don't they think of going to look for a job instead of being homeless? Do they not think that they can find a job?? Why is the government not doing anything about these homeless people on the streets?? Don't they have a responsibility for that?

I don't know why would anyone choose to be homeless though.. And, I think that the government or various social agencies are in the position to help these people and yet why are there still so many homeless people? I think that if these agencies don't help when it's their job to do so, then who else can be in the position to do that?

Good question! There are a Lot of reasons why people are homeless. Sometimes it's a case of not being able to afford a home. Some people who are homeless cannot get work because of mental health issues, or alcoholism, or health problems. It's not a simple solution. Many of these people do look for work, but not every homeless person has the skills. Plus, if you are homeless, how can you change into clean clothes and get a shower before going in to look for work?

That you feel bad shows that you have some compassion for you fellow human being. I always think, what if it were me. Granted some are on the streets due to drugs or drink but not everyone is homeless for those reasons. Some have lost their jobs, homes, their self respect. Some have repeatedly tried to get jobs only to be turned away. There are mothers with children on the streets due to being divorced and no where to go. In order to have a job you need a place of residence. To tell a person that you won't give them money because they might buy meat is not right. I would have taken them for a hot dog or a sandwich. I would never open my wallet in front of someone the way crime is now days but in the future keep a pocket with some change or a dollar or two, pound or two (depending on where you're from)that you can do without in your pocket and give them that if you are in a rush. It's better than buying something useless. Or just say sorry, I'm strapped right now. Everyone has a story. Don't just assume that it's because their a bum...It's sad that now days people would rather feed a stray dog than a fellow human being.

The unfortunate fact is that some homeless people do try to find jobs, but when you sleep on the streets and wear the same clothing (and sleep in the same clothing) for a few weeks, your grooming isn't what it should be. And employers do respond to first impressions.
Other homeless people don't want to work. They prefer life on the streets to working indoors and following a regular regime. Some have mental problems, which make it very difficult for them to find jobs.
The government is doing something about people on the streets. It's called welfare. But some of the street people don't even want that, because it requires them to register and to be somewhere at a certain time, and they simply aren't into that. The unhappy truth is that alcohol and drugs keep a lot of people on the streets too.
It's hard to generalize because some street people desperately want to get back to work and get their lives turned around, and some do succeed. There is no one 'fix' that will work for everyone.

The definition of hobo is one who wanders from place to place without a permanent home or a means of livelihood.
The definition of homeless is having no home or haven.
Most of these people you are seeing begging for money on the streets are hobos. They like to live on the street and don't want to be normal contributing members to society. Often times they are mentally dissabled. A homeless person does try to find a job and there are many programs to help such people. But they are usually run by independent organizations and not the government. Most homeless people used to have homes and jobs but for one reason or another they lost that and are stuggling to get back on their feet. So be sure not to hand money to a hobo, and instead support a homeless person who is struggling to have a better life.

Because businesses are taking their work to other countries to get cheap labor; thus you have a lack of good paying jobs in the US. There are many reasons for being homeless. None of us know when we might be in the same position. The government claims they are helping by giving some individuals public assistance which isn't much. There are some churches that do help feed them and provide clothing. It takes a lot of people with love and compassion to solve this problem. Apparently we don't have many caring people.

If you don;t have a home, havnt taken a bath in 10 days, and live in america.......ur not gonna get a job anytime soon. Of course they can try to freshen up and look for one. Mostly though those askin on the street are posers. Most Real homless people stay at thier familys house.
AND the government as many homless shelters nationwide. I ho[e you don't expect the government to give 10,000 Dollors to every homeless man in the nation do you? Cause that will never happen.

I do not think ppl choose to be homeless at all. I don't understand why you think that. And once they are on the street I would assume it would be hard to get a job because you have no address, no phone etc. Ppl are homeless because ppl that have money don't care. If everyone that had money gave instead of buying million dollar homes & stupid things like that then maybe more ppl would have a place to lay their head at night. It's sad, just sad. Money corrupts most ppl to the point they have no compassion for ppl who truly need help like the homeless.

Man you need to take off your blinders! most of the homeless have a mental
illness and the system has dropped them because the government can no longer pay to keep them in mental hospital's and other have fallen on hard times and they lost their homes and ended up on the streets. yes they go to shelters but they can only stay there a while then it's back on the streets. It is hard to get a job if you don't have an address or a phone number or have clean clothing to wear. put yourself into that kind of situation! step into their world and get a taste of their life Style. then make that statement again.

Some of those people on street corners aren't even homeless, some make $100,000 a year begging for money. Some don't know where to go and some want to remain homeless and refuse to stay in shelters. There are even more reasons than I can tell you.

Geez.......do you really think people choose to be homeless? It's because of heartless people such as yourself who cannot put themselves in others shoes! Have you ever heard of circumstance? We will probably have alot more homeless vets after GWShrub is done with Iraq.
TRULY GET A CLUE! Go volunteer at a homeless shelter and talk to some of the people there..........(the ones in line.....not the ones serving the food) and ask them how they came to be in the situation they are in today!
