i just ordered a record in the mail and i'll be getting it in two weeks (devendra banhart - rejoicing in the hands... double-lp)
i'm pretty excited about it since the guy is one of my new favorite artists.

so, i was wondering whether i should enjoy playing the record or leave it in its sealed holder and maybe sell it to someone in the future.

i can download all the songs easily enough.... and listen to them all that way.

but i think i'll just play the record.
i don't think i'll be too interested in selling it anyway.

what do you think?

Listen to the record - vinyl has better quality than CDs due to the fact that it is analog sound. this means the range of sounds is far greatrer - low frequency sounds better on vinyl (bass). This gives vinyl a "deeper" sound than CDs

Records are so much better for sound quality, you can hear everything, and I mean everything from the recording .. CDs are the closest they've been able to come but they still soften too many of the edges to the sound of a recording .. plus the actual sound of the arm on the record is awesome... oh I wish I had a record player and records, I would listen to them all the time!

Make a copy of it onto CD, and listen to the CD.

Problem with records is they do wear. The sound quality of them is better than CD, but the next generation will be DVD, and at that point, you will not be able to tell the difference with human ears.

But each time you play a record, you are wearing down the grooves. Do it for special occaisions, use the CD copy for the rest.

different, confident, greater proper, I dont think of so. As somebody who grew up on vinyl, i will inform you there is probably a different "presence" approximately vinyl recordings, They looked as though it could have a reliable sound on the previous variety amplifiers and audio equipment that are made in yet differently now. I continually purchase previous amplifiers and audio equipment that are nonetheless working nicely, at thrift shops and such, basically via fact they have in my opinion, a greater proper sound than those 6 and 7 channel issues they have presently. if fact be told I extremely have have my laptop sound card plugged into an previous J.V.C. 280 watt reciever with some previous radio shack audio equipment with 14 inch woofers with radial horns for mid and severe. those have been enormously effective of their day, and nonetheless sound large! I nonetheless have approximately 4 hundred albums from the days whilst thats what you need to purchase, and a enormously first rate turntable, and that i hear to three pick albums occasionaly, and that they do have a 'Livlier' sound than c.d.s yet i actually like no longer having to hearken to scratchy and noisy information. in case you could play a checklist album at a enormously loud point. and characteristic a pair of beers in you to decrease the "pickiness" point. then information nonetheless sound large. i think of the recording point, and how a turntable's impedance is inputed into your amplifier, is different than the "line point" pre-amplification, of a c.d. participant, too. Thats why there replaced into continually a committed turntable enter on those older amps. they're made to sound diffferent than line point inputs.

Enjoy the record for a while...then seal it along with the record player for your grand children. I'm sure they will be amazed to see that technology. If the record is scratch and dust free...and the needle is good on the record player...the sound quality will be similar to digital. Enjoy your record :)

As long as you take care of the LP it will sound great. There's a reason DJs use LPs instead of CDs. The LPs have a great sound. It's when they are not cared for that they get dusty and scratched and then sound like crap.

records never sounded as good as cds. they sounded better than cassette tapes and 8 track tapes but never as good as cds.
records worst problem was that they skipped and sometimes got stuck at a certain point in the song, but that mostly depended on the equiptment. the later records that were made were not as thick as the older ones and so they would warp.

Better but only if you have an excellent hi-fi. Otherwise your records will soon be destroyed.
