It just amazes me, that some people think of Oklahoma as a vast prarie, with cowboys and Indians still running around. Southeast OK has some of the most beautiful mountains and forests in the country.

Most people that think that have never been there. Once you go to the state I think most people are impressed by the beauty and the hospitality. I am fascinated by the state for the history since I have ancestors that were settlers and also indians. Alot of people just live in a fantasy world. Its like I live in California and people think there are movie stars running all over but I live a good distance from LA. Its just somebodys perception. Be an ambassador for Oklahoma tell people how great it is. You can kind of blame Hollywood for misconceptions too. They really did a number on confusing people about our history especially with the Indians. They try to make them out to be "savages" and they forgot to emphasize the truth that their land was stolen from them. BUt thats another story so I'll shut up....lol...

Some stereotypes will never die. People will continue to think that. But its better to have a sense of humor about it. I'm sure you've fallen for some stereotypes about other places.

And i'd hardly call the Arbuckles the most beautiful mountains. They do provide a nice scenery, but they aren't awe inspiring. And really, because of their age, they are more like hills. As for forests, oklahoma forests are nothing compared to forests in the northwest.

I'm surprised you didnt ask about small cities and farms. Oklahoma has large metropolitan areas too.

I know the movie twister didn't help the state's reputation.

For those who still believe in the stereotypes, theyd have to see it to believe it.

I would have to agree with you. I think Oklahoma is a beautiful place. But I am partial. I born and raised in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is a WONDERFUL place to raise a family! And the cost of living is wonderful.

All my extended family still live in all parts of Oklahoma. It is a great state and more people should visit.

Yes, actually, there ARE still Indians running around Oklahoma, and it certainly hasn't spoiled the scenery the way capitialists are trying to do. You racist ignorant bastard.
