1. John Wayne was never offered the role. Wayne "tried " to talk film director Charles Marquis Warren from taking the job offer to direct the new TV series. Two actors who did audition for the role, and were turned down, were Raymond Burr and Richard Boone. Wayne did, however, introduce the first episode!
