Well, I already moved from California back to Utah for precisely the reason that I was not prepared to continue to live there financially. It seems many Californians are migrating to other southwestern states as well. You can buy 3 houses in Utah for the price of one house in southern California, by the way. I think someone will have to do something about regulating real estate prices at some point in time. Gas prices are another thing. Those were the two expenses I noticed the most while there.

I decided I better buy a house in Arizona now so I can afford to retire someday. Living here in California would be difficult on a fixed income. I'm glad I did because it is worth more already. The affordability index is right. Housing is the worst part of the formula. http://www.realtor.org/Research.nsf/Pages/HousingInx
The west is way higher than the south.

I don't live in California, but would like to just visit. I am sure the cost of living is extremely high, and if I were you, I would get out because California will float off into the ocean one day!!

It's that way everywhere. It's time that the United States stops supporting the rest of the world and start taking care of its own. The American taxpayer seems to be paying for all of the worlds problems. It's time our government take a look at those who put them in office and start doing what's best for America!!!!!!!!
