Jst ask her to close it. You have to give and take when you are living with someone. And in this case she is going to have to give up her habit. Tell her your not acustomned to seeing people use the bathroom and over here it is supposed to be a private experience. That's whay when you go, you close the door.

perhaps via fact in Thai lifestyle they use squatting lavatories in many time-honored properties and gas stations. I remember people who've been there asserting that, interior the country cities, many human beings nonetheless squat interior the open in ditches or gullies made alongside the roads in basic terms for this purpose. this is in basic terms the hotels and vacationer areas that use the sitting-flushing form of lavatories we use. The squatting lavatories commonly have a smell this is a lot worse than something we would have with an computerized flushing bathroom. The squatting lavatories have a sort of open tank next to them with a bowl and you need to manually flush employing the water you scooped up with the bowl. this is normally moist around the section which will make contributions to the smell. they even have inhalers referred to as Poy-Sien (kind call). Inhaler is named Yar Dome in Thai and that they do no longer seem for use as an air freshener, they're used to place into your nostrils so which you do no longer cave in from the smell! they have a minty smell to avert the showering room smells from the squatter bathroom. they could be leaving the door open considering's what they have been conscious of in Thailand. you would be doing them a kindness to describe the machinations of the flushing bathroom and the fan swap which they are in a place to swap on as they enter the showering room. consistent with threat they're frightened of smelling up the showering room on you or they're basically used to leaving the showering room doors open for the justifications noted above of their interior of sight united states.

Just tell her to please close the door when she's in the bathroom. This has nothing to do with being American or not. Plenty of Americans are comfortable with thier bodies enough to keep the door always open.

"without sounding too American"!? If you live in the USA then sound American all you want!! If it was me, I'd just say something..... it can't be that big of an issue.

I think you need to communication with her. It is good that you acknowlege her feelings, but how about your feelings too? Sometimes it is not what you said but how you said it. I would say something like this: hey (name) do you mind me closing the door for you.

They usually nod and understand.

If she will not close it, then close it for her....Maybe have one of the other guests stand there and watch her....then she will either close it or she will get used to everyone seeing her.
