I am currently in an interracial relationship ( I am white he is African American). My question is how do i get friends and relatives to accept the fact that I have my own life and that I care very much about my relationship?

You can't! People will think what they want to think about your relationship. Personally, it's none of their business though they will make it their business to tell you just what they think about it. If this is right for you than go on with it regardless if your friends or relatives accept it or not. It's your happiness that counts here. Sooner or later, if they are really your friend, they will realize that you are serious and come around or go their own way.
As for the relatives? Honey! You can choose your friends, but you can't choose your relatives! Just be glad that you don't live with them! lol

What do you have to prove to anyone. You have a right to be happy with whomever you want. Your friends and relatives either need to accept the fact that you are going to be with him or deal with it. Don't let your friends tell you what to do, friends come and go, a real relationship hopefully will last. And as for relatives, well you're stuck with them, just don't let them ruin your life or make things hard for you and this guy. Good luck

I would be lying if I said that it does'nt do something to me when I see white girl and a brother together but it is your decision on who you want to love. As far as your family and friends goes, you just have to live your life and stop worrying about what they think, obviously it hasn't affected your being with him thus far so don't let their problem become yours. OOOOh, I feel like such a hypocrite right now but I am a true believer in love so be open to the family and friends when they are ready to accept the man in your life.

I agree with Brian G. If they don't agree they are really out there, no offense, but theres absolutely nothing wrong with being in an interracial relationship.

people will think what they will.if you love each other that is all that matters. love knows no color.if they make you choose, then the choice is made... never let anyone make you choose, they will loose. they can either be haqppy that in this mixed up craphole you found love or they can keep it to themselves.love is a rare beautiful thing and who knows in a few years we all may be one big mixd up race

dont care about thier opinoins, it doesnt matter, you are in this relationship and thats all that matters is your happiness,if you are going to care what they think then you will end up alone and nont married ,single life forever. i say you have fun and if you are happy go for it, if he treats you right then go for it!!!

If they can't accept that you are an adult and accept your bf for the relationship you have, then that's on them. You can't please everybody all the time. Just do you, and either they will or they won't. Simple as that.

your relatives will come around eventually, your friends will have no choice in the matter...if they are your friends and care about your happiness.
