Strictly speaking, a PC is a Personal Computer. A Dell is a PC. A Mac is a PC. A Macintosh made today is a computer that is, pretty much, the same as any generic PC, just as a dell is. Macs are now using Intel processors (known as "x86") processors. Dell uses the same processors. Macs will even run Windows now. A Dell PC could run a slightly hacked version of Mac OS (Mac OS for x86 uses a special BIOS that is going to be included with newer PCs very shortly called EFI - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extensible_Firmware_Interface - or Extensible Firmware Interface - this BIOS allows macs to "lock" themselves so the Mac os (unhacked) will only run on Macs.
Older Macs used PowerPC processors which were RISC based whereas Intel (x86) processors are considered to be CISC based. For more information on RISC and CISC, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Risc
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complex_instruction_set_computer
RISC based Macs COULD NOT run Windows (without running it "virtually" within a "virtual" computer created by a program running in the MacOS. And these Virtual computers were MUCH slower than the Mac so it's generally not considered the most practical solution if using an old mac.

"Macs" are actually Macintosh computers owned and made by Apple Computer Inc., who manufacturers the very popular MP3 player the iPod. The system architecture is very different. I would say that Macs are way more User-Friendly, as you do not have to learn as much jargon, even in this day and age. Macs are also WAAAAYY safer, as they have not made a virus taht affects anything vital to a Mac OS. I have to say though, being a mac user, more applications are compatible with PC's (Windows).

There are many.First, the internal architecture is completely different. Second, the OS of mac is Mac OSX but for PC is windows. Also their appearances are different (Mac is nicer!) .
There are others but these were the most important ones.

Functionally, one is not so much better than the other; but one usually has an end cost that is considerably higher than the other! Guess which one? If you like lighting money on fire, take the trendier one.
