And, in comparison or contrast, what will your Independence Day actually be like? (If you answer this part of the question, I'll know you read the additional info)

IDEAL: A drive out to the Chesapeake with blanket, picnic basket and a bottle of wine to hear an orchestra and see fireworks. Cool breeze, low humidity, no mosquitoes. No worries, no sweat, no porta-potties.

Or we could just stay at home in Annapolis (yes, my ideal includes immaculate historic district house, expensive hybrid car, cozy bank accounts). Watch the celebration on the national mall on TV on the couch. The kids are sound asleep from a day of play, but smell of Safeguard and warm water, snug in clean sheets. Snack on leftover baked beans and burgers.

MOST IMPORTANT: A united country, lots of patriotism, and a stable economy. No terrorism, no pollution, no poverty.

Actual: Maybe get some stuff made up to go over to Mama St Peggy's and sit around the pool. Trough on some major southern vittles in addition to the usual fare, after a heart-felt-everyone-joins-hands mealtime prayer given by my Gulf War veteran brother. FOOD FEST BEGINS. FREE FLOW OF BEER COMMENCES. Feel like beached whale while everyone sits in misty-eyed patriotism, thinking about all the soldiers present and past who have given or risked their lives for freedom in the US and elsewhere in the world, while watching the TV National Mall gig on PBS. Watch neighborhood pyrotechnics. Laugh with full gastrointestinal tract at ridiculous ground 'fireworks', like pellet snakes, tanks, and ground flowers, etc. Try not to get toes hurt by snap and poppers. Make sure dog is adequately comforted from weird @$$ sounds.

Wonder if the world will still be in the tough spot we're in this time next year.

Ideal world:
First I would drive my Ferrari Testarosa through the winding countryside at speeds in excess of 130 mph then I would win the American Open Golf tournament by six strokes, then I would hurry down to cape Kennedy in my jet helicopter and board the space shuttle for a mission in orbit where I get to do a spacewalk and fix a satellite or something, then back to NYC for the late evening, clubbing with a supermodel on each arm, and finally watching the fireworks celebration in the nation's capital (you did say ANYTHING)

In reality I'll drive up to my girlfriend's family's house for a cookout (not in my Ferrari), we'll eat, and then drive home so I can get right back on Y!A for a few more hours before bedtime. How sad is that?

My ideal independence day would be going over to my grandparents house and watching fireworks like we used to do. We never had alot of money, but it never mattered. All day long we would grill out, and wait until dark to light off the fireworks. Everything is different now. My independence day will actually be very boring though- more then likely I'll just try to call my family, and maybe swim around in the pool.

Hi To be honest with you I have ADHD and I take Adderall if you can, this might help in order to stay away from meds, try and find a trigger see what makes you tick and what makes you go blah. Take the time to stop and think what you are doing at that time, then when you feel like you have a good motivational day stop and think what you were doing at that time. It will help you figure out how to handle how you were feeling, so when the next time comes and you feel like you are just blah you can go back and remember what you were doping and feeling when you had that good motivational day. I hope that made sense Good Luck !

I am spending the 4th doing therapy for my hip and sleeping no more than 2 hours in a row. I have to use a walker on level surfaces and a can on the stairs. I need to do my exercises every waking hour so that I can go back to teach in the fall and get my flexibility back.

If anything were possible, I would already be recovered and out gardening with my daylilies.

My ideal Independence Day would be winning the lotto, but since I'm sure that won't happen, I'll be probably spending the day with my family at the fireworks and probably cooking out with neighbors.

If everyone in each country could have their own Independence Day, then it would truly be ideal. My reality will be quiet, at home, thinking about all those that can't be here in the US to celebrate the freedom they fight to ensure is shared. Perhaps it would be ideal if all those who have lived and died for freedom could truly know how thankful some of us are!

My ideal celebration would be one of thanks that I live in a free country, where I can support any reasonable cause I choose to, or not support those I condemn. I would be happy because my children would be living in a country where force could not be used to make them take actions that would be harmful to themselves or their own loved ones.

By contrast, I will be celebrating with a hollow feeling, knowing that any group with political pull can access my banking account, by having their political cronies tax me for the "benefit" of these groups, whether they be sports teams wanting me to build their stadium, or smokers wanting to use my tax dollars for their health care, and the list goes on and on.

Some day I hope we will throw off the Tax Slave yoke, forbid our political leaders from drafting our kids to fight worthless wars, and that we once again become independent.

It's my B-day tomorrow, if anything were possible, I'd be in Hawaii with my boyfriend on a beautiful beach, mai tai in my hand and a camera in the other. We'd spend the entire day by ourselves and party the night away. Instead, I will be pleasing my entire family by watching fireworks with them, no alone time with my boyfriend whatsoever. Oh well......................
