I'm a huge fan, so I personally think its amazing.
There is almost no dialogue, so it is practically an opera. This can be a bit of a problem because the first time my mother saw it, she claims she had some trouble understanding the lyrics to songs - and thus she got lost in the story. That was quite a few years ago on Broadway, however, and the sound system is quite good. You can never tell if the actors are going to enunciate, though, so I suppose this could still be a bit of a problem.
Do you know the story of the musical at all? Its a modern take on the opera 'La Boheme' by Puccinni and the basic plot is about two HIV+ people falling in love - one's an ex-junky, singer/songwriter and the other is a current junky and a stripper. The side plots revolve around a lesbian couple and the exboyfriend of one of the now-lesbians, a gay couple with a cross-dressing member, and how all of these characters can stay true to their art and still pay their rent [essantially]. It is a really beautiful story, but there is some bad language and sexual talk - I wouldn't recommend it for very young kids or people who are not at least a bit open-minded.
That said, I really hope you get a chance to see the show because it really is a life-changing experience. If you've seen the movie, the stage version is SO much better. Just listen to the Broadway cast recording versus the movie's soundtrack and you can tell the stage version has something special.
Hope I was able to help a bit!

It is good. THe music is not melodic at times. SOmetimes the lyrics are a bit of a reach. It is really an opera as there is very little spoken dilogue. It is enjoyable and a good story. I would see it.
