Lincoln would find ways to reward entrepreneurs but look skeptically at large corporations. (Score one, Republican). He would tax the population to fund programs that create equal opportunity, especially in the fields of health and education (Score one, Democrat). The main point is, times have changed; Lincoln lived in an age prior to big business, which doesn't care much about the people it can't find a use for.

Were Lincoln alive today, I'm convinced we'd have a 3rd party. The Democrats of his era are not the Democrats of today. The Republican party he represented has gone on a strange path since Taft. Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt were GREAT Republicans in the truest sense of the word.

But then again, were he alive today and in a party leadership position, we might not have the Republican party of Newt Gingerich that developed in the mid-90s. We might have a progressive, civil-rights oriented party with a laissez-faire economic policy and an aversion to usurious and monopolistic big business.

**Sigh** A girl can only dream...

If Abraham Lincoln were alive today, I would already have assassinated that rights-stealing S.O.B.

But I digress. He would be a member of the now defunct whig party. He would have to start it again. Democrats and republicans aren't the same parties they were in the 1850's and 60's. Heck, they aren't the same parties the were in the 1950's and 60's.

That's hard to say.

He'd be in favor of a broader, stronger federal government, because he was NOT in favor of States' Rights. In that light, he'd be more likely to be a democrat. And yet those who supported him and the post-war efforts of his successors were known as the Radical Republicans (not at all affiliated with the present Grand Ol' Party).

It is important to note, that in my humble opinion, had Lincoln not been assassinated, he might have gone down in history as one of the WORST presidents of all time, not one of the best. For more info, see my blog:

A Republican. He owned and had sex with slaves. He had major dollars in big industry later in life, regardless of humble beginnings. Remember, there are no more Whigs.

Bush would probably be a Whig. Or a Moron. Was that ever a political party?

I believe he would profoundly embarrassed by the Republican party. I don't think he would be a Democrat, either. Maybe a libertarian, perhaps? Or a green?

I think that if anyone of the forefathers were alive they'd be ashamed of us and appaled at the injustice and rampant racism that they fought so hard to get rid of.
Thnk how Franklin Roosevelt would feel about the changes to welfare and the stealing of child support to pay back welfare? Talk about taking candy from babies. So obviously you elite tax payers are poor and greedy and need it while these babies starve so have it. Just pray I am not your nurse one day.

Neither. In fact, because of his background, he might finish his GED and try to join the military. He might get married and have a family and would struggle with the american government representing only the rich. He would recognize the need to represent the working poor but because he wouldn't get enought money or signatures on a petition, we would never get to know this great man.
