I drive a Toyota Tacoma, 2005, silver, the regular cab one. I see ads for it and it seems to be geared towards the "adventurous young male" or at least, the young men who want to seem adventurous. I'd say a typical Tacoma buyer is a male, 20-30 white, probably works in some sort of labour industry. Probably has at least one tattoo, has had many girlfriends, wants to be though of as tough. I'm a male, 20-30, white, I go to university, no tattoos, I've had two girlfriends, no one would ever mistake me as being tough, I work at a hospital. I'm not adventurous at all, I like hiking and kayaking, but I didn't buy it to go off road or anything I only got the truck because my dogs like to be in the back. I guess I do sort of fit in to the social place that my car describes. But not everybody does; my brother drives a minivan. And he doesn't even have any kids!

No. Some people drive what they can afford, but some people drive what they like. I have a 2005 Mercury Sable. I could afford much more, but why pay more for something that is more expensive, but is basically the same thing. My mom drives a 95 F-150. Why should she go buy something new to prove to people she is well off.

it can be considered a sign of social status but it's not the only thing that outlines your social status. other things like what u wear can outline who u are socially

Some consider a status symbol.

Personally I'm glad for anything that looks decent, runs well & doesnt leave me having to walk/depend on others.

Independance is the ultimate status symbol!

It reveals roughly how much money you have, so I guess it shows socioeconomic status.
