Sharks do close their eyes when they kill, but most fish don't have eyelids. Animals normally have eyelids to keep their eyes moist and to keep out dirt, but fish swim around in water to keep their eyes moist and clean.

Because they are constantly freaked out. If you were being hunted by huge fish all the time, would you close your eyes?! Just kidding :)

Not really an answer to your question sorry, but I thought I would throw this out there. Sharks don't actually close their eyes when they attack. They actually roll their eyes into the back of their head.

i heard once that fish DO close their eyes... kind of... their eye lids are supposidly transparent, as to protect the eye itself, AND it makes preditors think they are still awake, because they don't appear to be asleep... that's what i heard, i don't know if it is factual.
