What do you mean by "irregular menstruation"? A lot of women have irregular cycles--is that what you are asking about?

How likely it is to conceive with irregular cycles depends on how irregular. A woman who has cycles of different length but every month (i.e. one cycle could be 32 days long, then 26, then 35, etc.) is probably ovulating regularly. A woman who skips whole months (cycles longer than 50 days) may not be. If she isn't ovulating, she *can't* get pregnant--no egg, no baby!!

Next some basic biology... A woman *always* has a period after ovulation. But she can have vaginal bleeding without ovulation before it (technically, this isn't a period). In fact, a woman always has a period a set number of days after ovulation; typically this is 12-16. It can never be longer than 16 or 17, and if it's less than 10, she's almost certainly infertile (there's no time for a fertilized egg to make it to the uterus before her period has started).

Sperm can live in the female body up to 3-5 days, but the egg only lives for a few hours. So you have to have sex *before* ovulation in order to get pregnant. A woman can learn to recognize the signs that ovulation is approaching; using this, she can maximize her chances of conceiving.

The simple answer as you have now seen repeatedly is yes! The underlying questions remain, especially what it is you mean by irregular. If you are ready to try to conceive a good starting point will be a visit to your GYN for discussion of this and any other concerns you may have.

Yes..I had very irregular periods all of my life and I had two children..I was married for almost 3yrs and thought that I would never conceive but the OBGYN tried a method of blowing my tubes out and I got pregnant 1 month to the date.

It is VERY possible! I have PCOS and got pregnant with my first child - no fancy drugs or infertility treatments (this was after our doc sent us to a specialist) and I am currently pregnant with my second child who was conceived while breastfeeding - now that was a SURPRISE! My periods were NEVER regular. And after a year and a half of 'trying' we started to think a baby was out of our reach - we were wrong! Keep up healthy habits and a good diet and it can all fall into place!

Possibly - but only your doctor would be able to tell you for sure. Basically, the way my doctor explained it to me is that when you have regular periods it means you are regularly ovulating. When you are having erratic periods and/or no period for an extended time you are not ovulating or are only ovulating once in a while. You want your cycle to be regular so that you ovulate regularly and have a better chance of conceiving.
You should talk to your doctor about your cycle because you may need to get on medication to help regulate your cycle.

YES! The irregularity of menses is common to everyone, unless your on the pill.

I've seen women who have not gone through their cycle for 3 months and suddenly become pregnant.

Yes, its just harder because the uterus isn't flushed out on a regular basis advocating egg production. But, yes, its very possible. Good luck!
