You got that right. No one can just give you their experience and there you have it. You can take from others experience as a base / advice.. but you have to build your own because each individual is different from the others and each person's experience is unique to that person.

Experience takes a lot of hard work, hardships, opening your eyes, ears and all your senses to new things, investigation of what comes you way, searching for the truth, years of your life, but it pays off in the end and is really worth the trouble.

The real question is, "what is the question"?
The way your question is worded your asking if experience is the only thing you cannot get for nothing.
That, although worded differently ,is saying everything else you can get for nothing, everything, except experience.
However, no matter how you word it,..
Nothing is for nothing.
Nothing free is without cost.
Everything has a price.
Experience takes time, usually years of it. Time is the cost; experience the reward.
And as everyone knows, time is our most precious gift.
Air is free. It's just costing us our lives so we can drive our cars, run our factories and use hair spray.
Even your asking the question and my answering it has a cost. Both of our time to ask and answer, not to mention some level of education to be able to both read and write.

but the chicks are free!

**shakes head**

Ok what I meant was........Experience should be free. But sometimes people "THINK" they are experiencing something by merely.......showing up. To experience......you must put time and effort into the process. If not.....pfffffffft.....you've gained no experience. You only existed for the moment. Do nothing.....get nothing. Put passion into the moment and you experience something that will last a lifetime. You know, Oscar knew a lot for being so butch. ;)

No. I don't see how I can get experience playing in the NBA for free, as an example. What a dumb saying. Apparently Oscar's no philosopher.

Did he say that before, or after, the Queensbury Trial?... ;-)

He also said:
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.

This seems more like common sense than something deeply philosophical but, then again, that would be typical of Wilde; a true artist in his ability to baroquely express the patently obvious.

i think there is always a cost for the experience.....no matter how big or small it is someone or something in some way will pay the price....but that doesnt mean not to enjoy every experience...hell you cant live forever so enjoy life and what it brings you ....and if you know the right people you can always hide the proof and deny deny deny....

Wouldn't it be grand if we could gain experience without any pain!
Unfortunately, sometimes expererience comes at a very high price indeed.
But do we learn from experience? That is the question!

Anytime I've gotten experience it's cost me. Especially a BAD experience.

In my experience, the one thing you can't get for nothing is the experience of getting nothing. Grouch used to say "Harp" ..(He always called me Harp) . Don't listen to Wilde - No man that sues and loses that bad should be giving' advise to others. I assume "Sue" to be his "girlfriend" ...but I could be wrong....Quotes ' For he who live more lives than one
more deaths than one must die.'

Experience is free. It's the getting it that costs so much. We can do much, but if we learn not, then we gain not. Therefore, no cost, no experience. You must "get it" in order to get it.
Got it?
