Recently my goldfish has passed a a thin mucousy string several times. It's longer than normal and it looks really weird. What could it be? He only has coloured food, nothing white.

No, that's not what it is...exactly. I guess it could be called that in a way, but it's not right. I've had this goldfish for 3 years, so I should know. I looks white this, mucousy and it curls a little. It looks kind of like the little cord thats in egg whites.

More than likely internal parasites.
This is what I do for angels, you may want to look into the maximum temp your fish can handle. Metro was originally designed for humans, the closer you can get the tank to 98.6F the better.
Put the angel in a quar tank, I usually use a 10 gallon. Increase the temp over a day or so to 90-94F. Treat daily with 40 mg/gallon metronidazole, with 50% water changes daily. If the fish isn't eating, don't feed for the first 3 days. After 3 days, get some frozen brine shrimp. Take a portion about the size of a few match heads, and sprinkle on some metro. You have to eyeball this one, make the shrimp look kind of like a tiny powdered donut. Once it thaws, mix it in & feed. Sometimes they still don't eat for a few days, but once they start to mouth the food & spit it out, the meds seem to get in their system real good. Continue medicating the water & food for 7-10 days.
Metronidazole is sold as flagyl, het-a-mit, and a few other names I can't recall offhand, used to treat hexamita & hole in the head. They usually suggest 20mg/gallon, this often isn't enough. Metro deteriorates in 8 hours, so you could do twice daily water changes. I've done this on the weekends when I have time.
I've also added epsom salt while using metro, this helps with any constipation issues, cleans out the digestive tract. I start with 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water, increasing by 1 teaspoon daily for 2 more days to bring it up to 3 teaspoons per gallon. You will have to adjust how much you use when doing water changes. You may want to give this a try.
HTH, & good luck!

None of the above, if your fish has white stringy faeces it means it has intestinal worms. Go find some medication for internal parasites, alternatively go to the vet / doctor and get a prescription for Metronidazole. I use the human form of the tablet to deworm my fish, it's called Progyl or Flagyl. Also raise the temperature to 90 F, if you have a heater. If going to the vet or doctor is too much trouble then make sure whatever medicine you buy from the fish shop contains metronidazole.

I had a blind cave fish for years, he was big and healthy- so I thought- anyway, he got sick one day and got this little sore on him.Mind you I had him for YEARS, but the spot was a round worm that was inside of him burrowing out. It was just one but it killed my fish and it was about 2 in long and it curled. looked exactly like the ones dogs and cats get. so keep this in mind as well as it could be poop- look at it real close and see if you can tell if it is moving like a worm kind of curling up, it will look different than poop moving with the current of the water. good luck

Whenever a fish is passing white, stringy poo it is a sign of baterial infection. Remove allo carbon from the filthers and treat the tank with something like maracyn and/or Maracyn II. Remove the carbon because carbon takes meds right out of the water.

Ok sweetie small words because this is such a silly question. When you eat carrots, do you poop orange. NO!!! Also if the string is so long that you are noticing it you are probably feeding the fish way to much.

That would be his stool. Fish can absorb the colors from the food and so it comes out white.
