diminished means decreased
.-43 diminished by -18 means take -18 from -43 or subtract -18 from -43 or in other words add 18 to -43 and the answer would be -25

I have never heard the term diminished used in reference to mathematics. I will hazard a guess though. Diminished means to lessen or reduce something, so that leads one to think that diminishing in terms of mathematics would mean the same thing. To reduce -43 by -18 would be -25. However if diminish means to combine the two numbers because they are both negative, then it would be -43 + (-18) = -61.

or
It isn't diminished, -43 is increased or enlarged by -18.

To be diminished (made smaller), you'd have to add -18 to -43.
