Unless you have some kind of 6th sense, I'd say it's virtually impossible. All this hokum about looking people in the eyes; some people just don't like eye contact, it scares them. On a daily basis it is reckoned that we all tell lies, and those that say they never tell lies are deluding themselves. What are lies anyway? What is the truth? It depends on where you are standing and which way you are looking at the time. Two people viewing the same event from different angles can often give totally opposite descriptions of the event. It's all relative, there is no such thing as absolute truth in this imperfect world of ours.

There are many ways of telling if someone is lying.
1. If they don't look directly at you when you are talking
2. Fidgiting, tapping fingers
3. Sweating.
The best way to find out is to ask several questions, remember the answers and several days later re ask the questions in a different way, not changing the meaning, if there are descrepencies in the answers given. You have a liar.
To be a good liar you need an exceptional memory.
Hope that helps

You can't always tell, but go with your gut feeling and here are some things to look for the way they hold their body, the way they talk(tone of voice). See how these compare with how they usually are. Ask a lot of questions. If they are defensive or evasive, you know they are lying. Did they lie in the past? Check out what they may be lying about. Find out for sure if it's important.

They twitch, hide their mouth, look away when telling the offending lie. If they're really good they will sit on their hands to avoid playing with their hands whilst telling the lie.
They will breath differently, they'll blink alot, make minor mouth movements, shift in their seat, over emphasive the opposite of what they're telling a lie about.
Trust your instinct, we all KNOW deep down when someone isn't telling the truth!

I study Body language and if someone is not giving you eye contact when telling you what they say is true or if they scratch there head or nose or fig git or stuttering on certain words then they are most defiantly lying! if you say three days later ask them the same question again see how they look a bit panicky in the face and the story changes slightly, hmmmm!

apparently they'll look up to one corner. one corner is for memory recall and the other is for imagination, thus the imagination side is the lying side. (dunno which is which though). another sign is slight changes to minute details in their story over time. you see they'll remember the main parts of a story well (whether true or a lie) but over a few weeks, the smaller details which are lies will get a bit ropey, its all in the detail...p.s., if you're planning to tell a lie, don't bother, it'll make you anxious and you'll nearly always get caught out. not worth the bother or stress. own up and take the rap, then move on. we all make mistakes...

Peoples eyes look in a certain direction when they are lying it subconsciously accessing the creative side of your brain.
body language is another major factor if they are hiding their hands etc it can also depend on the persona of the subject

When they won't look me in the eye, and are quick to change the subject. Also, any nervous tick they might have, like constantly tucking your hair behind your ears, or itching their nose a lot.
