This is gonna sound so rubbish but it is true
if the person loves you for you she wouldn't care how much it cost or what it was like
she is in love with you and i am sure she will be so happy you asked her she wouldn't mind
if you want to buy a bling bling ring buy it but if you want to buy a elegant sophisticated ring that is small but elegant do that what ever you buy i bet she will be the happiest girl in the world
good luck with your future
respect

It truely depends on your financial situation. It is not as important what size the diamonds are in the ring but instead what the ring signifies. That said women do like to show off their wedding and engagement rings. Personally I gave my wife a 40pt dia engagement ring and a 1 ct wedding ring. But I have seen others that had no diamonds and they were just as happy. Plus it gives you an opportunity later in life when more financially secure to upgrade rings.

As far as the metal, take a look at what she currently wears. Both gold and white gold are good, platinum is a good alternative also to white gold if allergic to gold, but is more expensive.

A lot has to do with the specific taste of your fiance. Many women already have an idea as to what they want for a ring. Try to find out from a close friend of hers. Or if you think you really know her taste, then pick one out that you'll think she'll love...not like, love. She needs to fall in love with the ring as it is the symbol of your love. The metal should reflect her taste...does she wear more yellow gold or silver/white gold? Whatever she wears the most of, that's the metal you should get. As far as stone goes....diamonds are a girl's best friend!! (unless she's verbalized a want for another stone like sapphire or emerald). If you're getting to this stage of your relationship, she should already be dropping hints as to what she wants, so pay attention to what she's saying.

The ring should be diamond and should cost at least what you make in 2 months. If that is not possible, something will catch your eye that says 'this is for her.'
