I find that #1 pencils don't write as dark as the softer #2 pencils. #1 pencils tend to tear the paper because you have to press harder. Try an office supply story or an art supplies store or Michael's or ACMoore. Good luck.

You can most likely get a variety of pencil types at an art store, craft store, or a drafting supply store.

art stores,The numbers doesn't mean light or dark it is because some lead is fine and others is thicker so they are numbered, I don't know whats fine and dark in the order of difference but thats what it means

yes, they are softer... at an art store you will find several different types of graphite..
