1) we fear what we don't know about
2) we love snob appeal and are looking for any reason to make ourselves better than some one else
3) we are greedy and want to make less competition in the world, which we do by writing off someone for something that has nothing to do with how qualified someone is

1. Religious intolerance - Christianity.
