You can book various low cost airline tickets on the web. Go to www.bookingbuddy.com and it has all the websites where you can buy cheap airline tickets. Also try www.mobissimo.com
bookingbuddy.com compares a lot of websites, mobissimo.com searches all the websites.

You can go directly to the website of a low-cost airline (such as Southwest, AirTran, or Jet Blue). You can also try a travel agent, but they will charge you a fee. That might be a good idea if you're planning a whole trip, but if you're just looking for air fare, go to an airline's website.

By saying cheap you mean inexpensive. Well see where you want to go then check the web sites that were mentioned. Pick out the time you want to leave and return, since that govens the price. I have heard leaving on a Tuesday is less. Then go to the Airline to get a better price.

Cheap does not exist on the internet anymore. You will find a travel agent has more sources to save you money.

www.kayak.com will do comparative search for you and I LOVE how easily you can narrow the results after the search.

One disadvantage (although I am not sure) - somehow jetblue and southwest flights do not show up on kayak. Either they are not as cheap as I thought or you have to check them separately.
