Lip gloss and mascara are fine, but why be in such a hurry to grow up. It might seem exciting and new to start wearing make-up but believe me, by the time your 25 or older it is a chore that you won't always want to do. As a rule, don't over do it, and don't do it too much 'cause it's not great for your skin. And enjoy being a kid for a few more years.

Lip gloss is OK @ 12. Worry about eyeliner/mascara @ 13!

What would be the reason for wearing it? If it is just everyday to try to make you look older; I believe 12 is too young. If, you are wearing it to enhance features during portrait taking, I think that is fine. Try not to grow up faster than needed. It isn't as fun as it looks being older. Most girls are so pretty between the ages of 12 and 18 they need very little make up. It is only us oldies trying to look like our youth that require that much paint.

I think that by the time you reach junior high school you start to feel the peer pressure to wear make-up.
If you feel as though you really want to, I would reccommend using mascara and lip gloss only. At age 12 most girls have wonderful skin and you want to show it, not cover it up.

After you wear makeup your face starts to look different, you break out more, you age, etc. At 12 you ahev beautiful radiant skin you dont need to cover it. When people see you with make up after they'ev seen your face all clean you might look better, but then when you take it off, it seems you look worse. Its a a girl thing. We all want to hide ourselves. Wear chapstik and a little bit of blush. Mascara makes your eyelashes thin. Eyeline can make you look trashy if you wear too much. I guess if you really want to wear it at such a young age, make sure its all natural looking...same as anyone who wants to wear make up. MAke uo should look all natural.

I was not allowed until I was 15. And then it was just mascara and lipstick.
No need to be in a hurry. Make up causes zits and it smells! (At least I can smell it when someone is wearing it!)
Daughter uses only eye liner and mascara (she is 23). She has such oily skin (like her mama), it would disappear before noon and would have to re apply...which means carrying her makeup with her and that is such a pain.

Most 12 y/o's don't need to wear make-up, but if they want to, there are some products out there that can make them look pretty without overpowering them. Lipsmackers and Fruit Frappe lip glosses are very sheer and can add a nice tint to the lips. A little sheer eyeshadow can also go a long ways, but don't rush yourself on wearing a lot if you don't need to. I wish I didn't have to wear make-up and once you start wearing it, you depend on it.
Hope this helps.

Seriously !!!!!!!!
At that age you're supposed to be cute, learning, trust me I'm 44 years old. I would have never went up to some tripped out azz lil girl trippin on makeup. How about going to McDonald's? Seeing a movie? Going out skating? Is your mom doing this? Tell her to stop. Are your relatives doing this? Tell them to stop. Is it the community that you live in pressuring you to be plastic? Avoid them. I'm sure nobody in Answers will tell you that, at 12, you need to use makeup. All using makeup will do for you is to make you look older, even when you are 30, you will be all aged and raggedy looking from all the abuse on your skin.
Can you say Jon Bennett?

No. As a matter of fact, I belive that 12 years old is the perfect age to start wearing make up! Because that's the age when girls start to get interested in boys.
