At our current rate of consumption, we will have exhaused this planet and probably a great many more planets resources by the time the sun dies a few billion years from now.

Earth is 5 billion years old. Same is the age of sun approximately. Man is not more than million years old on earth. Earth's resources were more or less conserved till man entered the scene. sun is giving us lot of energy every second. Who knows if a bright spark figures out technology to convert sun's energy to some other form of energy provided by say fossil fuels like oil or coal our resources will literally be infinite. There are too many variables and possibilities are limitless. It is irrational for us to build scenarios unless we are reasonably sure of our results in a rational and scientific manner. Therefore I consider this question inappropriate for answer presently.

In order to answer this question, too many assumtions need to be made. For example: Will the human race survive and, if so, at what rate will its population continue to grow or shrink. We have been on the planet for a relatively short period of time. One asteroid or meteor may significantly alter current trends. Another ice age could slow down population growth. If we can survice a 10,000 more years, we may have to start worrying about using up the planets resources. Chances are slim that we even make it 10,000 years.

The answers given make the assumption we won't blow ourselves away through nuclear war, or burn up the atmosphere in a runaway greenhouse effect. Don't you wonder why we have not been able to detect anyone else out there? Doesn't anyone else have radio? Maybe by the time they are smart enough to invent radio they turn their planet into garbage. We won't exhause our resources by the time the sun expands away because its burned out its helium. The 3rd planet will be the twin of Venus with a sulphuric acid atmosphere.

I dont think so. We'll probly just move on to other planets by the time the sun burns out. We will always find or create new things for power. I forget what i was watching, but it's said that the sun will either burn out and turn into a white dworf or into a black hole or turn into a red giant that will comsume the earth.

Maybe if engineering has some major advances we can convert the matter in the solar system into the construction of a Dyson sphere. Then we would have virtually unlimited resources until the sun go kablooie.

no, the planets resources stay around anyway. Just the coal and oil will be mostly gone soon. Most species go extinct in 4 million years or so, we have been around like 5 maybe. Maybe humans will last another few million years , maybe not.

Our sun is a dying star, and as such it is expanding and will eventually consume mercury, venus, and earth before it then contracts, and becomes a dead star. Our fate is to be eventually consumed by the sun.
Not to worry, that is billions of years from now and mankind will most likely have become extinct by that time, or, if we're lucky, science will have discovered a way for us to move on to another planet to inhabit.

In 5 billion years? One of the smartest physicists alive today just asked what can we do to survive the next 100 years. To answer your question, yes. Now if humans didn't exist and it was all just animals eating other animals and plants, this planet might have a shot at it.

We as a species will be long gone before the sun dies or even the Earth's resources are gone, don't worry, we are a self-limiting species.
