Please be serious, if anything do not compare it to baseball. Baseball players are not even athletes. Look at the baseball icon, Babe Ruth. He looks like he ate a whole soccer team. Soccer players are great athletes. It is a fast paced and tactical game. Anything can happen every minute. Seems like you are American so let me give you a comparison. I already covered Baseball. lets look at football. Each athlete takes part in the game for about 12 - 15 minutes total. This is in a 3.5 hour span because of all the commercials. NBA. There are great athletes but you may as well watch only the last quarter. Because the rest doesnt really matter. And if it is a close game last 2 minutes on the clock will be an eternity again because of all the commercials and time outs. There are billions (yes billions) of people that are attracted to this amazing sport. If you cant see the reasons yourself it is hard to make someone a fan.

I think nearly every sport is like that: I'd rather play than watch. However, the only two sports I can stand watching are golf and soccer because I get some nice ideas for them when I actually play later. I learn by watching, and besides, I've some bets that Germany will win otherwise I owe my friend dinner....got to keep up on who's winning! Most people don't like soccer because there are hardly any points made unlike basketball or American football. I used to dislike watching golf until I started playing it; people think I'm crazy, but I love watching it! It's not the same for soccer; I've loved watching it since I was young!

Dear Joe, one needs passion in life. We get that from watching football. There are highs and lows and sometimes its boring. But we have all played football and we can relate to the game. Our social life revolves round football whether it is our local team, our national team or the team my godson (aged 11) plays for. You argue, you shout, you celebrate, you sing. Its the best way of getting rid of tension. I am sorry you do not have the same feelings. What I would recommend is that you go to a big game, you might just catch the excitement and be as excited as the rest of us.

You can't focus on the score to enjoy the game. You have to watch the passing, the defense, the ball handling. Brazil plays the beautiful game, and when they are on form, it is indeed beautiful.
More to the point, in other areas there are few, if any, competing sports. We have football, baseball, basketball, hockey, all competing for attention. With fewer sports, more people play football in the community and club levels and are more engaged in the sport.

If you play, then you won't think it is boring to watch. You will understand what is going on. Soccer is a grand chess match played out back and forth over 120 yards of turf. Even the diving is part of the chess match. Learn the game first...but if you still can't stand it, then don't watch! But don't bother us who do watch, and enjoy watching! I can't explain why I like to watch...I just do. Although if a game turns boring...then I change the channel.

Here in the Uk, its basically our national sport - no-one in this country plays baseball or American football, they're foreign concepts to us - no clue. So that's ehy we like soccer so much - we don't know anything else! People in other coutries, hoever, i guess can speak for themselves...

You just have to know how to get into it. I've always loved it. I used to think basketball was the worst sport to watch. But after seeing a few games live, and sticking it out through a couple games on TV I don't think it's half bad anymore. Try to stick with it for a bit and you'll fall for it.
